15. Cadillac Cimarron

This small-scale luxury car may have Cadillac in its name, but it never felt like a Cadillac.

Technically, of course, this car was not a Cadillac as related to the company’s other luxury vehicles.

It was simply a compact car that Cadillac decided to built and slap its name on. It sold from 1982 to 1988.

Some consumers were lured to these vehicles by the Cadillac name and the less expensive price tags; however, most people were not fooled. If it doesn’t look or drive like a Cadillac–it’s not a Cadillac.

Even so, the company pointed out that these cars did come standard with some higher end features like air conditioning, accent stripes, and power mirrors. Company executives were, therefore, quite surprised when these vehicles only sold about one-third of their estimated sales.

Clearly, they took a big risk and it didn’t pay off. Many consumers simply didn’t believe the car was a good value with its four-cylinder engine and lack of refinements associated with luxury vehicles.

While Cadillac marketed the cars as “scaled-down luxury vehicles” and never dubbed them as Cadillacs, the public couldn’t refrain from referring to them as chintzy Cadillacs. The cars simply couldn’t recover from the bad press they achieved when released.
