10 Workout Exercises You’re Doing Wrong
9. Wood Chopping
This exercise works several muscle groups in the body with one smooth motion, and is not a stressful on the muscles as other workouts can be.
However, it is still important to maintain proper form and to perform the exercise correctly to minimize the risk of injury.
A full body motion like this requires the individual to engage the entire body to ensure that proper form is being used.
In some ways it is much easier to keep form during this workout that it is during workouts that only pinpoint one certain muscle group. However, it is still possible to injure yourself if you don’t keep a couple of things in mind.
One of the most common mistakes that people make when they perform this exercise is to not be fluid enough. All too often men will remain too stiff throughout the movement and risk injury in the process.
In order to properly perform the wood chop, your feet should pivot with each chop down and lift up. The other thing you want to consider is whether or not your waist is moving as it is intended to. Make sure to bend your knees as you reach down and don’t forget to twist the waist.
Twisting the waist not only works the core muscles, it protects the lower back from injury. Without twisting at the waist, it is likely that you will end up with a pinched nerve or strained muscle in your lower back which can keep you off your feet for days to weeks.
