4. Machete Kills

Inspired by grindhouse movies of the 1970s, “Machete Kills” was a bit of a gamble from the start for director Robert Rodriguez.

The presence of Charlie Sheen and Lady Gaga were perhaps clues as to how it would end up. The plot involves a villain who has visions of starting a life on another planet.

It’s a rollercoaster ride of a movie from the start and is a confusing mess of parodies and jokes that fail to bring a smile.

Machete Kills really split audiences, but it has managed to develop a cult following who are keen for a next instalment in the series. Others regard it is one of the worst movies ever made and hope the franchise will end here.

The movie featured an eclectic array of actors including Danny Trejo, Jessica Alba, Mel Gibson, Amber Heard, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Sofia Vergara to name a few.

The vague plot follows Machete Cortez played by Trejo who has been recruited by the President of the United States to help capture an arms dealer.

The “Machete” franchise began life as a fake trailer for the Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino double feature “Grindhouse.” A third instalment is planned for the franchise entitled “Machete Kills Again…In Space!”
