9. Bicycle Fishers

Amsterdam is known as one of the most bike friendly places in the world, with some reports claiming there are actually more bicycles than residents.

Since this dreamlike city is carved with 165 beautiful canals, and given that a certain plant is legal in this amazing country, it is no wonder some of the residents and visitors end up in one of the canals, along with their bikes.

This is why Waternet, Amsterdam’s Water Authority, employs people on a yearly basis to literally fish out all the bikes that drowned during these accidents. It is reported that between 12,000 and 15,000 rusty two-wheelers are retrieved every year.
