13. The Women Of Ciudad Juarez

Juarez is a poor Mexican town near the border, often called the City of the Lost Girls. Sadly, the name isn’t far from the truth.

Hundreds (or perhaps even thousands) of women and girls have been raped, tortured and killed over the past ten years or so.

Many of these women worked in the town’s numerous factories, or lived there because it is close to the border.

No assailant was ever prosecuted or arrested, due to an ever-intensifying drug war taking place in the country’s poor neighborhoods and a government filled with corruption. Not only that, but little has been done since to stop the assault on the women of this small town. The cases remain unsolved.
