8. The Somerton Man

Australia had its own share of unsolved crimes, the most known of all being the case of the Somerton Man.

The body of an unidentified man was found against the Somerton Beach sea wall in Adelaide, without any signs of struggle (or violence, for that matter).

The cause of death was deemed indeterminable. The poor John Doe from Down Under was dressed in a suit, without any personal identification.

He did, however, have a piece of paper that read “Tamám Shud,” which is Persian for “it is ended/finished.” The page came from a rare book, The Rubáiyát, which was found a few streets away. The book had a ciphered message only visible with UV light. Some people believe that the man was a spy.
