Health Benefits of Drinking Beer
Scientists at Lanzhou University in China have discovered that drinking beer actually reduces the risk of damage to brain cells that leads to degenerative illnesses, such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.
The study report didn‘t specify the amount of beer that should be consumed, but it did reveal a general finding that drinking beer could prevent cell damage that causes Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases.
What the scientists actually discovered was that a chemical in hops, a plant used to make beer, protects the cells from oxidative stress that causes degenerative problems. This chemical is called Xanthohumol (Xn), and it has previously been linked to reducing the risk of cancer, viruses and obesity.
The paper was published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, and an increasing number of young individuals suffering from degenerative problems actually inspired researches to conduct the study.
