Mike Shotton, a 39-year-old movie fan from Britain, has had enough with the annoying sounds of crunching popcorn in movie theatres.

This frustrated and determined man is now calling for a popcorn ban.

The Newcastle-born Shotton says that his enjoyment of movies of all genres is constantly being ruined by the sound of people munching down on the fan-favorite cinema snack.

He managed to keep his thoughts to himself until recently, when he went to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Namely, his experience was totally ruined by children rustling and chomping down on popcorn.

After his unfortunate theatre experience, Shotton launched an online petition to outlaw the sale and consumption of the popular snack. So far he’s only gained 301 signatures.

His complaint on the site cites that “theatre chains bombard people with constant reminders to be quiet during the film, and they sell the loudest food known to man on the premises.” Shotton didn’t have kind words for popcorn either, describing it as “smelly, loud, tasting of nothing, and sharing a consistency with weakened polystyrene.”

A counter-petition has been launched soon after Shotton’s online rage vent, which argues that “popcorn is an essential part of the cinema experience.”
