Ten Used Porsche Models You Can Afford

8. Porsche 911 (1974 to 1977)

For a true bargain 911, look at the cheapest production runs of 1974 to 1977. You’ll be shocked at how good these models are.

For the most part, mid 1970s 911s are underrated. They aren’t collectible.

They haven’t obtained the classic status of the 1960s era models, or their associated nosebleed prices.

They aren’t cars that will appreciate in value anytime soon. But this does not make them any less fun.

These cars are easy to drive and enjoy. For body styles, choose between the Coupe and the Targa with its rigid removable roof panel.

All classifications feature the classic big-bumper narrow-body design, necessary for the 911 to conform to U.S. regulations that required cars to absorb impacts at speeds of up to 5mph without sustaining damage.

You’ll get a 2.7-liter magnesium-cased engine as standard, and smooth, powerful CIS fuel injection.

By 1976, the 911 came with even more to love. Porsche’s great experiment with hot-dip zinc coating went a long way wiping out the 911’s notorious rust problem.

Protruding “elephant ear” door mirrors which allowed for electric adjustment and heating were introduced and became a feature of the 911 through to the 1990s.

The engine size increased over the production run to 167 hp. Not bad for less than $10,000.
