Ten Used Porsche Models You Can Afford

Porsche-912

9. Porsche 912

For an affordable version of the classic 1960’s 911, look no further than the Porsche 912.

This model was conceived in 1966 as an alternative to the luxury 911, offering similar handling without the price tag.

Under the hood, a four-cylinder engine resides in place of the 911’s six, so this car does not come with the power of its iconic sibling.

Expect 102hp at 5,800 rpm, resulting in zero to 60 in 11.5 seconds, and a top speed of 119 mph. But the no-frills 912 offers other advantages.

With a flat-four, an early 912 weighs about 250 pounds less than a 911 of the same year, resulting in superior weight distribution.

And the combination of fuel-efficiency, low-weight and low-drag translate the 912 into a fuel- efficient vehicle decades before the green revolution.

What’s more, an untrained eye will struggle to tell the difference between a 911and a 912 body.

Subtle interior differences, such as the plastic instead of the wood trim, and the three-gauge instrument panel, have not deterred buyers.

In fact, when introduced, the 912 outsold the 911 by nearly two to one. While that’s unlikely to be the case today, savvy buyers can pick up a piece of history for around $15,000 to $25,000.
