14. McLaren 12C
Their main call to fame is the Formula One technology they employ in each vehicle, lending them all a high-performance flavor that is uniquely McLaren.
The 12C is the first commercial vehicle they’ve produced in ten years following the successful McLaren F1 whose production ended in 1998.
The 12C makes use of several Formula One staples such as “brake steering”, where the inside rear wheel brakes during a fast corner in order to keep the car aimed where it’s supposed to go.
Add in a high-torque 3.8 liter V8 engine and a zero to 60 mph time of 3.7 seconds and you’ve got one of the best speed machines ever built by man. The 12C set the second fastest lap ever around Top Gear’s testing track, wowing the hosts as well as reviewers the world over.
The car comes in several variants, from the convertible Spider model to the HS or “High Sport” model, a one-off promo line of which only five units were ever made. All are owned by McLaren employees, sadly, so don’t expect to get your hands on one soon.
The 12C, however, might just be in your future, assuming you’ve got a few Monet paintings lying around the house that you’re willing to trade.
